Anxiety

We’re all made of light and dark
The unlit candle and the match’s spark
Passionate language,
The tongue’s decay,
Nightly horrors eviscerated by Day;
My eyes roll back into my head to see the shadow lurking within
Animosity at odds with grandiosity,
Curiosity wrestling with human atrocity

A pin pricks Pandora’s Box
allowing evil to ooze out while
a ray of light seeps in,
the difficulty lies in discerning
if one is escaping or the other
infiltrating
Is the light augmenting the darkness
or is the darkness diminishing the light?

Demon’s chatter manipulates matter,
whispering bitter nothings into the air
as the anxiety consumed woman’s hair
begins to prickle and rise on the back of her
neck,
Captured by fear, she refuses to check
if her thoughts are real as the soothsayer’s
voice begins to feel like
Truth

Grasping for proof at her internal trial,
while on the outside,
the woman greets each stranger with a heartfelt smile,
but the Demon’s whispers never cease or desist
even though she is screaming
and tries to resist

WAKE UP!
wake UP!
QUIT HOLDING YOUR BREATH
WAKE UP!

She gasps for air
unaware she was drowning,
unaware she was sinking from the thoughts
she was thinking,
unaware her stare was vacant and her eyes were
no longer blinking,
Unaware she had not bathed in days and her breath
smelled from drinking,

She swam to the surface of her identity
and noticed her eyes were clouded
by a fog that masked
infinity,
She sat meditating for a moment as
she balanced her darkness with
a glowing serenity

The feeling of suffocation was slowly
replaced with elation as she expelled the negativity
she experienced through over-inhalation of self-doubt
and castigation,
There was a cessation of negative sensations and
she felt the warmth of the Sun’s radiation,
the Universe’s burning yellow creation

She was restored
